The Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center is the premier indoor sports facility in the Mat-Su Valley. The facility is a 102,000 square foot building to include a NHL-size ice arena, an indoor artificial turf court, a running/walking track, three community meeting rooms, and a kitchen facility.
The facility opened in March of 2004 and was originally named the Wasilla Multi-Use Sports Complex. In 2009 the facility was renamed the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center.
Curtis D. Menard was instrumental in spearheading the effort from conception to realization of the Wasilla Multi-Use Sports Complex. He directed the steering committee that was responsible for placing the issue before the voters of Wasilla and subsequently passed. He remained chairman of that committee through the design and construction of the facility. He was an ardent supporter and leader of civic, educational and athletic endeavors within the community as well as an advocate of the continued success of the Sports Center.
Dr. Menard was a true community leader serving on the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School Board, the Alaska State House of Representatives and State Senate, and as Mayor of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough.
